Wind River and 6WIND seal a partnership for Multi- Core processors

Wind River Systems, Inc (NADSAQ : WIND), worldwide leader for Device Software Optimization and 6WIND, embedded networking software provider, validated a joint solution including Operating System and network layers for Multi-Core CPU. This solution significantly reduces development time of powerful equipment for innovative applications such as mobile network infrastructure, telephony and TV over IP or UTM.

A new generation of equipment (mobile network infrastructure, UTM, TV over IP…) require high demanding processing capabilities, differentiated packet processing and end-to-end security. Multi-Core (MC) CPU technology provides a well-suited hardware solution thanks to an excellent performance / level of integration / power consumption ratio.

However MC-based hardware architectures remain complicated and software layers (Operating System and network middleware) are mandatory to manage this complexity to reduce development time and costs for this new generation of equipment.

To deliver a valuable answer, Wind River et 6WIND provide a joint solution based on Wind River Linux and 6WINDGate™, a full-featured networking solution including both Data Plane (Fast Path) and Control Plane while making optimal use of hardware packet processing capabilities (distribution between cores, encryption, priority management, deep packet inspection). Common customers will greatly benefit from this integrated and validated solution providing L2 services (VLAN, GRE…), IP forwarding, IPsec, QoS management, IP filtering… in a Carrier-Grade Linux environment.

This solution interfaces efficiently hardware architecture to provide optimal performance while significantly reducing development tasks. Equipment Providers (telecoms, security, media gateways…) can focus on product differentiation. It also makes migration from existing architectures to MC-based ones easier thanks to interfaces compatible with a standard Linux.
