KT LICENSES 6WINDGATE
FOR JOINT WIRELESS BROADBAND TECHNOLOGY COLLABORATION
Paris, France and Seoul, South Korea, January
10, 2007 6WIND (www.6wind.com), leader in advanced embedded
networking software, announced today, KT's decision in licensing
6WINDGate software to jointly collaborate on further development
of IPv6-related technologies for Mobile WiMax (WiBro or Wireless
Broadband) in South Korea.
The Korean broadband service provider selected
the 6WINDGate embedded software with its full dual-IP features
(including Mobile IPv6) to build a wireless aggregator equipment
capable of handling high-performance IPv4 to IPv6 transition, end-to-end
security, advanced routing, quality of service and an upgrade path
to IP mobility for managing multi-radio access. The software's Open
Network Engine architecture will enable a smooth IPv6 introduction
over the existing network infrastructure.
"6WIND was the only provider in the market
able to demonstrate a ready and complete solution that will not
require us to develop the necessary equipment from scratch nor significantly
change our current network architecture. This allows us to meet
our aggressive schedule of rolling out our first IPv6 pre-commercial
services" said Dr Jaehwa Lee, Director, KT Advanced Technology
Laboratory.
"6WIND is happy to be working with KT on
this major milestone towards ubiquitous & innovative services.
Following our success in the wireless broadband deployment in Japan,
it demonstrates yet again the confidence in 6WINDGate as the
choice solution to deploy faster mobile services. Since we have
widened our embedded software support of cost-effective system-on-chips
(SoC) to high-performing multi core processors, we can provide a
large array of solutions to deploy 6WINDGate-empowered access control
routers, scalable in performance and adapted to the varying densities
of base stations," said, Eric Carmès, 6WIND COO and
co-founder.
South Korea has the world's highest number of
broadband services per capita with 75 percent of households being
broadband subscribers and 67 percent of its population connected
to the Internet. WiBro, known as mobile WiMAX outside South Korea,
is one of eight next-generation services selected by the country's
Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) in its IT 839 policy.
The technology enables users to log onto the broadband Internet
while on the move at speeds up to 120 kilometers per hour. KT is
one of a few local communications companies selected by MIC to lead
WiBro development in the country.
6WINDGate Software
Suites
6WINDGate software suites are embedded
Internet Protocol (IP) software platforms for networking and security
system vendors to easily build converging multi-services IP gateways
meant for SOHO, SME, enterprise and ISP applications. Distributed
over Linux, they incorporate the market's first comprehensive dual-IP
control plane protocols, slow path and fast path data plane modules
for routing, security, QoS, mobility, IPv4-IPv6 transition, device
and service management.
Hardened for SoC and multi-core network processors, the 6WINDGate
scalable software suites are validated on x86, IXP4xx and multi-core
MIPS64 processor architectures. All of 6WINDGate software
suites comply with IETF, and has successfully demonstrated network-readiness
on several off-the-shelf hardware reference designs. Further enquiries
on 6WINDGate software suites and its latest release can be
addressed to 6wind-contact@6wind.com.
