6WINDGate 2.22 New Features

6WINDGate version 2.22 now includes the following new features:

  • MPLS encapsulation: The 6WINDGate Slow Path and Fast Path now include a MPLS module that integrates ILM, NHLFE, and FEC to support more than 500,000 LSPs per LSR or LER. It can combine any FEC (iptable/netfilter or 6WIND's VRF support) to map traffic on LSPs. This MPLS encapsulation module is ready for integration with any off-the-shelf RSVP-TE or CR-LDP signaling protocols.
  • TCP splicing: This module interconnects TCP sockets directly into the Fast Path while using userland TCP proxies, such as Apache. It has been designed to allow L4 interconnections by combining the rich set of features of a Linux-based proxy with a powerful Fast Path-based TCP.
  • High Availability: 6WINDGate is now HA-aware; it integrates the packet processing features required for HA Carrier Grade Systems. Using 6WINDGate HA extensions, you can combine multiple multicore processors to design a single HA managed system. Those modules provide NSF (Non Stop Forwarding), NSR (Non Stop Routing), Graceful Restart, Control Plane monitoring and table synchronization between multiple instances of remote Control Planes and Data Planes without impacting the performance of the Fast Path. Thanks to its tight integration with a Linux-based Control Plane, this HA solution accelerates the development of HA-ready packet processing systems. It has been successfully used on 4G systems and Carrier Grade NATs (LSN). An Overview of the 6WINDGate HA architecture is available here.

Two-thirds of the largest telecommunications equipment suppliers use 6WINDGate to maximize the packet processing performance of their systems. With optimized support for multicore platforms from multiple embedded processor suppliers, 6WINDGate allows system developers to focus their design efforts on their own value-added software components, with 6WINDGate implementing the low-level packet processing and data plane functions. This allows customers to maximize the system-level performance of their platform while enjoying the ability to seamlessly scale from single-core systems to more complex multicore architectures.

If you are interested in 6WINDGate, presentations, performance results and evaluation software are available upon request.
